New Year's Eve in Argentina: a festival on the coast, with camping
If you are travelling through Argentina this December and have no plan for New Year's Eve, here is one: a field on the Atlantic coast, fifteen minutes from the sea, music from December 31st, and your tent pitched among the eucalyptus trees for as long as you want to stay.
What Cosmos is
Cosmos is a New Year's festival with camping, held on a farm called Estancia Santa Isabel in Chapadmalal, on the Atlantic coast of Buenos Aires province, Argentina. It began as a New Year's party that got happily out of hand and is now in its second edition.
There are live bands, DJs, performances, talks, local food and wine, the sea, and a lot of doing nothing. Days are for listening, sharing and eating; nights are for dancing. What is on offer is not a line-up but a whole experience, from beginning to end.
When it happens
From December 27th, 2026 to January 3rd, 2027. The campsite opens on the 27th at 2pm and closes on January 4th at 11am, so you can arrive and leave at your own pace.
Music runs from the night of December 31st through the night of January 2nd. Remember that December is high summer in the southern hemisphere: expect long warm days and cool nights.
Where it is, and how to get there
Chapadmalal is on the coast, 25 minutes south of Mar del Plata by car along Route 11, and about four and a half hours from Buenos Aires.
Without a car: there are frequent long-distance buses and flights from Buenos Aires to Mar del Plata, and from there it is a short drive. There is also a carpooling group where people share rides and costs — ask us and we will point you to it.
Sleeping there
Camping is included in the ticket. Bring a tent, warm clothes for the night, a towel, a torch, insect repellent and a reusable bottle. There are toilets, open-air showers and free drinking water points across the site.
If you would rather not carry a tent across a continent, there are a few glamping options: tents already pitched, beds made. Places are limited — write to info@cosmos.fyi.
Good to know
One ticket covers every day, camping included. It is personal and non-transferable, and you will be asked for ID at the gate. Over 18s only.
Phone signal ranges from almost none to none. That is part of the point, not a fault. No phone photos or video on the dancefloor either: the camera distracts, presence connects.
It rains sometimes and we dance anyway. If the weather turns severe, the programme moves to the following day.
